Fresh from a meeting with China's top diplomat in Moscow, Russia's President Putin today appeared at a patriotic rally attended by thousands and praised what he called "heroic" Russian troops involved in the fighting in Ukraine.
Meanwhile in Warsaw, US president Joe Biden promised to defend every inch of NATO's eastern flank to protect democracies throughout Europe.
The language on all sides has become about much more than the war that started here almost a year ago.
