one of the hardest things to really learn is how much pressure you need to apply with both groundwork and in the saddle using your leg to achieve the desired reaction from your horse. now every horse is different and some are lighter than others, and therefore you will not have to use as much pressure. now the application of pressure will be intermittent, which means that it is a press and then a release as soon as the horse takes a step, now the release means that you just are not applying anymore pressure and it's timing and the amount that is important. we call it the escalation of pressure. step One is to ask which is to not even touch just fain a touch, then two is to suggest which is applying just a little bit of pressure, and then step three is to demand. which is to apply as much pressure as needed in order to get a step. like I said this is very difficult to understand sometimes because every horse and every Rider combination is different and the best way to learn is through lots of practice.
