Different questions are being raised by fans and followers of Dr John Watts are flooding his series of hugely popular educational videos with queries related to hair transplants and hair growth issues.

In this educational video, noted dermatologist & trichologist and one of the Best Hair Transplant Surgeons in Hyderabad Dr John Watts answers select shortlisted questions of viewers related to hair growth, hair hall and hair transplant. He has performed over 1900+ hair transplant surgeries successfully.

Ashok Ch asks: Sir, I heard you explaining in a video that body hair grafts can be used for transplantation on the scalp. I wonder how you can use curly beard hair for transplantation on the scalp? Will they work or do we have to use a hair straightener every time? Please explain.

In his response, Dr John Watts informs Ashok that the priority during a hair transplant is to use donor hair from the back of the scalp for transplantation. “If one does not have sufficient donor hair, then we look for body hair as grafts. However, there is a catch if we have to use curly beard hair as grafts,” informed Dr John Watts.

Usually, curly donor hair from the beard is not used for transplantation on the front of the scalp as they look odd and out of place, affecting the normal look of the hair after some time.

“Even if you use a hair straightener there is no use as after 3-4 months, these curly hairs again take their natural shape and features. This is because curliness is the dominant natural trait of this hair in that person. Hence, curly donor beard hair needs to be used elsewhere on the scalp, ideally on the top,” explained Dr John.

In a conversation, Dr AV Rao informs Dr John Watts he is saddened as his friend’s marriage was called off. When Dr John Watts enquires about the reason, he was told that Dr AV Rao’s friend had a hair loss problem and the bride had a change of decision. Soon after, she rejected the proposal a few days before the marriage day following this new development. He asked Dr John Watts: What can be done in such a scenario?

In his response, Dr John Watts informs the viewers that such developments are tragic and heart-breaking situations that many people face in their lives. “Sometimes, the bridegrooms also reject proposals of brides if they look fat in the photographs. Such body shaming is also an issue. Such things show the character of the person. Though matchmaking looks into several aspects, we must always look for people who can understand our problems as there are solutions for such problems,” explained Dr John.

In the case of genetic baldness, the groom is not at fault if the problem stays in the family and there is the likelihood of the next generation having the same problem as their parents.

He pointed out that if the bride was concerned about the hair loss problem of Dr A V Rao’s friend, this issue could have been sorted out by consulting a hair transplant surgeon or a dermatologist. “Hair medication or opting for a hair transplant procedure could have saved this marriage,” remarked Dr John Watts

Shiva asks: Sir, can the use of mobile phones lead to hair loss due to the radiation effect? Please explain.

In his response, Dr John Watts informs Shiva that the use of mobile phones has become a necessity nowadays. “They have become part of our extended self as we cannot live without using mobile phones,” informed Dr John.

While answering his question, Dr John Watts said that though several studies are going on to find out the health impact of mobile phone radiation so far, no studies have proven that they are also linked to hair loss.

Shekhar Physics asks: Sir, which combination would provide better hair results
a) Minoxidil hair lotion along with Finasteride oral tablets or
b) Minoxidil lotion mixed with Finasteride lotion

In contrast, the use of both Minoxidil and Finasteride lotion is restricted to local application areas only. “Their effect is localised. You get results where you apply them,” explained Dr John.
