Another page recently made a meme using images of my garden. It went viral. Shared tens of thousands of times across at least 3 social media formats, with many more tens of thousands of comments.
I read a LOT of the comments, and the very confident assertions folks made about Parkrose Permaculture based on one image of a small portion of my garden. So, I'm here to set the record straight and discuss those "gotchas" and respond to a chunk of the criticisms honestly and transparently.
I picked the top critiques (they were repeated profusely) and I'm here with the clapbacks, y'all.
- Your HOA won't allow that
- Your city must have fined you
- This is photoshopped/faked
-You're lying, you can't have 32 fruit trees/your plot isn't actually 1/4 acre
- Asking for your house to get broken into
- Folks steal your fruits and veggies
-Your yard is a mosquito nest
-Snakes are a huge problem
-You have ticks, fleas, mice, rats, and they're out of control

(mad credit to my FB Page follower Chad Nelson for the "property values" meme! Not sure if he made it, but he shared it and it cracked me up)
It's absolutely WILD that folks who have seen one picture can tell me they now my garden inside and out and make declarative "factual" statements about my home and garden. Let's consider engaging with inquiry and good faith, y'all. Feel free to ask me questions - I am more than happy to answer any and all questions. Search my website, search my YouTube, you might find the answers there. But don't assume, and don't tell other folks you know "how it is" in a real life, thriving permaculture system because you saw on picture. Let's do better.
In future videos I'd like to address other top critiques, but this video was already getting long, so I'll break them down in the coming weeks in separate videos. Namely, "this stuff belongs in the backyard", and "her water bill must be astronomical" and "she spends a ton of money on that garden every year"
