Social workers and police officers found to be negligent in protecting children in Oldham from grooming gangs must face disciplinary action, MPs have urged.
Apologies have been issued after a major report said police and the local council failed to protect some youngsters from sexual exploitation, although it concluded there was no official cover-up.
Labour MP Jim McMahon, a former leader of Oldham Council and now MP for Oldham West and Royton, said any evidence of failings by professionals examining the cases should be “reviewed and revisited” regardless of whether they were still in their jobs or had left.
