The German Bundestag adopted the draft law that includes the NATO membership protocol of Sweden and Finland.

While the Social Democratic Party, the Greens, the Free Democratic Party, the Christian Union Parties and the Alternative Party for Germany fully supported the NATO membership of Sweden and Finland, the Left Party opposed the law regarding the ratification of the protocol.

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht stated that the step taken by Finland and Sweden is important and correct and deserves support, and said:

"NATO's northern and eastern flanks are gaining decisive power. With the admission of Finland and Sweden to NATO, we strengthen freedom and democracy. Accession not only increases the alliance, but also increases solidarity and unity in Europe and the transatlantic. Thus, it deters those who want to disrupt this unity. "

Tobias Lindner, Minister of State at the German Foreign Ministry, said: "The planned participation of Finland and Sweden in the North Atlantic Defense Alliance, given the shocks we and our partners have experienced in Europe and the world as a result of Russia's war against Ukraine. "Today we are strengthening the democratic values of NATO," he said.
