The Pakistan Budget for fiscal year 2022-23 was presented on June 10, 2022 by the Federal Minister for Finance, Mr. Miftah Ismail. Recently the budget has been approved and the Finance Act, 2022 has been published.
A number of changes have been made further in the finance Act, generally enhancing the tax.
Finance Act has made changes to Section 3(9), tax on retailers other than tier-1 retailers. This is the Tax on Shops/ Retailers which will be imposed during this tax year.
This is a Fixed Tax Scheme for Retailers, who will be paying tax through their electricity bills. The rate of tax will depend upon the amount of electricity bills. The tax categories include Rs. 3,000, Rs. 5,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 200,000. The tax will be increased by 100% if the retailer is not in the active taxpayers list (ATL). This is the first time that the FBR will be charging Sales Tax Through Electricity Bills.
