Xinjiang farmers more enthusiastic about cotton farming

Cotton sowing is in full swing in northwest China's #Xinjiang.

Despite #US sanctions on Xinjiang cotton, more Xinjiang cotton farmers have confidence in their careers.

Jumay Hasan is one of them. For him, planting cotton has become a good source of income. He plants 130 mu (8.7 hectares) of cotton in Shaya County this year, 10 mu more than last year.

"Last year, each mu of cotton field in our cooperative harvested 410 kilograms of cotton. We could get more than 2,000 yuan (about 314 US dollars) of dividends per mu," said Jumay Hasan.

Meanwhile, new technologies also help farmers increase efficiency.

"After we flattened the field, we could start to sow the seeds with the help of the Beidou Navigation Satellite System. It's more accurate with high sprouting rates," said cotton farmer Abdugani Abdukeyum.

According to the #China Cotton Association, Xinjiang's cotton plantation area is expected to expand to 3.75 million mu in 2022, up 2 percent year on year.
