Young volunteers from the Iraqi city of Mosul are offering foreign visitors free guided tours to promote tourism in the city.

STORYLINE:

A group of young people in Iraq's Mosul have been organizing free guided tours for foreigners in the hopes of luring more tourists to the war-bruised city.

Named Mosul Heritage, the group is mostly made up of university graduates who speak English as a second language.

In addition to the free tours, the group also offers transportation services and meals in local restaurants at cheap prices.

The meal and transport services cost $20 per person for half a day and $40 for a full day.

In one of the tours last week, a group of Portuguese tourists got to discover heritage sites across the city.

They also visited areas that were destroyed or damaged in the war against the Islamic State group.

Last year, Iraq removed the pre-arrival visa requirement for citizens from 37 countries, including the U.S., U.K. and EU countries, in order to boost business and promote tourism.
