Brussels has a packed circular economy agenda for the next months. A central piece is the upcoming Sustainable Products Initiative (SPI), in which the European Commission wants to impose new requirements on manufacturers to make certain products like smartphones, tablets, textiles or furniture more durable. It also aims to help industries reduce their environmental footprint and reassure consumers that companies’ claims on the sustainability of their products is backed by sound evidence.
